When I first decided to see this film, I didn't realise it was a British film, with a majority British cast, so that was a nice surprise.
I found myself constantly saying things like "Oh look its Doctor Who" or "Bloody hell whats Ian McShane doing in this"
Anyway you can tell it is nearly Christmas as this is yet another family film in the mould of Harry Potter.
Will Stanton is a young boy with a decidedly dodgy American accent, who reminds me of the oldest kid on Home Improvement, anyway he finds out that he needs to collect these token things to give him the power to beat the bad guy.
There is talk of him travelling through time, but it doesn't seem to have been taken advantage of, with the time travel seemingly to identicle areas with just different lighting, so that is a disapointment.
Much like Stardust this film is squarely directed at children and middle aged women, and I am sure they will love it.
I found myself left wanting, but then I have never really enjoyed this type of film.
In fact just 5 minutes after it had finished i found it very hard to remember ow the film ended.
This is a perfect film to take the kids to, to keep them quiet for 90 minutes, but it is instantly forgettable.
I would give this film a 5/10 (if you are a man) and 8/10 if you are a child or middle aged woman.
