Our Review By Lilith
I was really excited to hear about a New Zealand zombie comedy coming out and was eagerly anticipating something to rival Peter Jackson's Braindead. And added to that the comedy genius of using sheep as objects of terror! So I suppose that from the start this film had a lot to live up to and I could be accused of expecting too much of it.
That said, however, this film had absolutely nothing that would make me sit through it ever again. The idea of a zombie sheep is hilarious. For the first five minutes. But that's the ONLY joke this film has to offer. It really is a one trick pony (excuse the farmyard animal pun). Apart from some slightly offensive and not very funny gags at the expense of vegetarians and environmentalists the zombie sheep are expected to sustain the film through 87 very long minutes.
For the gore fans there are some mildly entertaining moments but by the time they came in I'd given up and was just thinking about how sore my arse was on the hard cinema seats. Without a decent storyline and characters I could actually care about the "horror" parts of the film were rather dull.
If you fancy a really good zombie comedy from down under you could do a lot worse that checking out the 2003 film "Undead". It's imaginative, funny and relies more on the actors and the script than on having large financial backing.
